Backyard Basketball Association ("BBA", "we", "us", or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using backyardbasketballassociation.com, you agree to the practices described here.
If you are under 13, please do not use this site or create an account. See the "Children's Privacy" section below for details.
1. Who We Are
This website is operated by BBA Games, LLC, located in North Dakota, United States. You can reach us at:
- Email (privacy questions): privacy@backyardbasketballassociation.com
- Email (general support): support@backyardbasketballassociation.com
- Mailing address: P.O. Box 1234, Bismarck, ND 58501
2. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Account information: name (or display name), email address, and password (stored as a one-way hash — we never see or store your plaintext password).
- Age confirmation: a record that you confirmed you are 13 or older when you registered.
- Consent records: the date, time, and version of the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy you accepted.
- Billing information (premium subscribers only): if you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not see, store, or have access to your full credit card number. We receive only a customer ID, the last 4 digits of your card, the card brand, and your subscription status. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
- Game data: the seasons, games, scores, and statistics you create within the app.
- User preferences: audio and gameplay settings you configure.
- Communications: if you email us for support, we keep a copy of that correspondence.
Information collected automatically
- Log data: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring URL, pages viewed, and timestamps. Used for security, debugging, and abuse prevention.
- Cookies and similar technologies: we use a session cookie to keep you logged in and a CSRF cookie to protect against forged requests. See "Cookies" below.
- Rate-limit data: we record the number of registration attempts per IP address per hour to deter automated signup abuse.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above to:
- Create and maintain your account.
- Save your seasons, games, and statistics so you can return to them.
- Authenticate you when you log in.
- Process premium subscriptions and apply premium benefits.
- Respond to your support requests.
- Detect, investigate, and prevent abuse, fraud, and security incidents.
- Comply with legal obligations.
- Improve the app — for example, by reviewing aggregate usage patterns to decide what to build next.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
4. How We Share Information
We share information only in these limited circumstances:
- Service providers: companies that help us operate the site — for example, our hosting provider, Stripe (payment processing). These providers may only use your information to provide services to us.
- Legal compliance: if required by law, subpoena, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of BBA, our users, or others.
- Business transfers: if we are acquired, merged, or sell substantially all of our assets, your information may transfer to the new owner. You will be notified in advance.
- With your consent: in any other case where you explicitly tell us to share your information.
5. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:
- Strictly necessary: session cookies that keep you logged in, and a CSRF token that protects against forged form submissions. These cannot be disabled if you want to use the site.
You can control cookies through your browser settings, but disabling strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from logging in.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your personal information within 90 days, except where we are required to retain it longer for legal, tax, security, backup, or fraud-prevention purposes. Anonymized or aggregated data that cannot be linked back to you may be retained indefinitely.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including:
- Encrypted connections (HTTPS) for all traffic between your browser and our servers.
- One-way hashing of passwords (never stored in plaintext).
- Tokenized payment processing through Stripe (we never receive full card numbers).
- Rate-limiting and abuse-prevention controls on registration and login.
No system is perfectly secure. If we discover a breach affecting your information, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by law.
8. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
BBA is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. During registration, we ask each user to confirm they are 13 or older. Accounts that do not confirm this are not created.
If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, please contact us at privacy@backyardbasketballassociation.com and we will delete the account and associated information promptly.
For parents: we encourage parents and guardians to register their own account and supervise children's gameplay. The app is designed to support family play around a single shared account.
9. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access: request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct: ask us to fix information that is inaccurate.
- Delete: ask us to delete your account and personal information.
- Export: request a portable copy of your data.
- Object or restrict: ask us to stop or limit certain uses of your information.
- Withdraw consent: where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@backyardbasketballassociation.com from the address associated with your account. We will respond within 45 calendar days. If we need more time, we will notify you and may extend the response period where permitted by law.
10. California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information. We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
To submit a request, email privacy@backyardbasketballassociation.com. We do not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
11. International Users
BBA is operated from the United States. If you access the site from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. By using the site, you consent to this transfer.
EU/UK users: we process personal information based on legitimate interest (operating the site), contractual necessity (providing the service you signed up for), consent (where required), and legal obligation. You may contact us to exercise the rights described above.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we update the version number and effective date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated by email or by an in-app notice, and where required, we will ask you to re-accept the updated policy before continuing to use the site.
